Natural environment at centre of discussion about the south’s future

September 2019

Green Halo steering group members Alison Barnes and Simon Eden spoke about the need to put the environment at the heart of a combined identity for the Central South at a conference on Friday (20 September).

Leading figures from Southampton, Portsmouth, the M3 corridor and the south east of Dorset came together at a Southern Policy Centre event in Brockenhurst to hear calls for the area to “speak with one voice” to government and combine to rival the Northern Powerhouse or Midlands Engine.

Professor John Denham, former Southampton Itchen MP and now director of the Southern Policy Centre, proposed a united Central South Region around the areas Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth-Poole-Christchurch.
