Putting a Price on Nature – Valuing the Solent’s Environmental Assets

24 September 2019

Balmer Lawn Hotel, Brockenhurst, SO42 7ZB

The Solent LEP is holding a series of advisory Masterclasses throughout the year, each focussing on challenges faced by businesses which may affect their ability to grow.

On 24 September we will be hosting a Masterclass enabling SMEs to build their understanding and recognise the value of Natural Capital in their approach to business growth planning.

The term ‘Natural Capital’ refers to elements of nature that either directly or indirectly bring value to people and the country at large. It is hugely important that members of the Solent’s business community recognise the economic value of our unique natural assets. Considering environmental impacts should be part and parcel of any land development, or business growth plan.

Environmental protection is at the heart of the Government’s Industrial Strategy, and is an essential basis for economic growth and productivity over the long term. In the past, failure to understand the full value of the benefits offered by the environment and cultural heritage has seen poor choices made. By using a Natural Capital approach, we can ensure that the key contribution the environment makes to our economy is protected.

Do you consider the value of our region’s natural assets in your business planning?

Are you keen to build your business in a way that enables economic AND environmental prosperity?

We will be joined by representatives from the Green Halo Partnership, who are working to ensure that the natural environment is seen as an integral part of how we work and live. The Partnership was born in the New Forest National Park, but invites partners from across Hampshire, The Isle Of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire and beyond to:

  • Inspire by promoting best practice in protecting and enhancing natural capital and ecosystem services
  • Encourage by developing and delivering new projects
  • Support by helping to identify resources for projects and offering expert advice to assist in their delivery
  • Inform by continuing to promote and publish research on natural capital, and by communicating its activities to local communities.

The event is FREE and is from 10am to midday.

We hope you can join us.
